lady vipers win swing for the cure:

Picture
The Lady Vipers traveled to San Antonio to open their season at Brackenridge Parka GC competing in the NEISD Swing for the Cure.  This is one of the best fields of the year and a great chance to get an early look at how the team stacks up.  The girls posted a morning round 300, and then made a big charge in the afternoon posting a school record 283 (-5) to climb into 3rd place.  The final round brought a very close finish and the girls made a few birdies late to post 292 and finish T1 with Memorial.  The Lady Vipers got the win based on the 5th player score.
Makenzie Niblett (76-65-67; T4) and Nicole Vivier (69-68-73, T6) led the way.  This was a great team win and a fantastic way to get the season started.  The team is back in action in early November at the Viper Classic.

Makenzie Niblett (76-65-67)
Nicole Vivier (69-68-73)
                                                                                                        Mimi Burton (75-78-73)

                                                                                                        Scout Shaw (87-82-85)

vipers take 2nd at lake travis shootout:

Picture
Vipers got their season going at the LT Shootout played at Clay/Kiser GC.  The team posted a morning round 278 (-6) at Kiser and then tied a school record posting 275 (-13) in the afternoon at Clay.  They started the final round in 3rd place and went on to post 280 (-4) at Kiser to move into 2nd place.  The tournament total of (-23) is a new school record.  There were a lot of personal best scores posted along with the team records (see below).  Very pleased with how well the guys played all 3 rounds and how they continued to pour in the birdies and keep their foot on the gas.  The team is back in action in a couple weeks at the Four Points Shootout.

Cole Sherwood (69-68-65)
Sho Kato (68-68-70)
Sam Dossey (71-67-73)
Jack Wehman (70-72-72)

jv takes 5th at vandy fall invite:

Picture
JV guys competed in the Vandegrift Fall Invite at River Place CC.  This course is one of the toughest on the schedule and a good test for the guys early in the season.  The team competed well and posted a team total of 355 to take 5th place.  Freshman Tyler Blackwell led the way posting a career best 77, good for a T2 individual finish.  Proud of how well the guys handled this particularly tough course.  The team will be back in action next month in the Bastrop Inv.

vipers 3rd/7th at four points shootout:

Picture
Vandegrift hosted another strong field at this year's Four Points Shootout at Falconhead GC.  Vandegrift Black posted rounds of 295-289 to take 3rd place and Vandegrift Silver posted rounds of 317-318 to grab 7th.  Cole Sherwood won the individual title with rounds of 71-65 (-8).  Sho Kato took home 4th place with rounds of 70-71 (-3), and Sam Dossey grabbed a T10 finish with rounds of 73-74.  The teams played solid and continued their strong start to this season.  Falconhead always provides a nice challenge and the strength of the field means the kids have to play well to earn a high finish.  The team is back in action November 12th in a dual match against Westlake at Legacy Hills GC.

Cole Sherwood 71-65                             Andrew Tan 75-78
Sho Kato 70-71                                        Travis Rider 81-77
Sam Dossey 73-74                                   Prayaag Oruganti 86-76

Jack Wehman 81-79                                 Tyler Blackwell 92-87

lady vipers win viper classic:

Picture
The girls team traveled to Delaware Springs GC in Burnet over the weekend to compete in this year's Viper Classic.  On day 1, the field battled very cold temperatures and damp conditions.  The team embraced the elements and competed very well posting an opening round 294 to grab the lead.  The final round offered up great weather and the girls again played solid, posting a final round 296 to grab their 2nd team win of the fall.  Makenzie Niblett (73-71) and Kaylee Vesely (73-71) led the way with all-tournament finishes.  Nicole Vivier (71-78) and Mimi Burton (77-76)  played solid and brought home top 10 finishes.  I was extremely proud of how well the girls competed in round 1 in tough conditions.  Would've been easy to make excuses and not show much fight.  I thought the opening round was a great show of character and how proved how competitive this group is.  The team is back in action next weekend at Legacy Hills for the Fall State Preview.

Makenzie Niblett 73-71
Kaylee Vesely 73-71
Nicole Vivier 71-78
Mimi Burton 77-76

Makenzie Niblett 77-72

Nicole Vivier 79-77
                                                                                                        Scout Shaw 85-86

vipers 3rd at aggie cup:

Picture
The guys got their spring season started traveling to College Station to compete in this year's Aggie Cup at Traditions GC / Miramont CC.  This is one of the strongest fields of the year, played on 2 demanding courses.  The guys posted an opening round 299, led by Andrew Tan's 73, to sit in 3rd place (5 off the lead).  Round 2 brought some very good play with the team posting 285(-3).  Jack Wehman and Cole Sherwood posted final round 69s to set the pace.  The team closed the gap, but still finished in 3rd, 3 shots off the pace.
Both days, the team closed the round off very strong to get a good score on the board.  I liked what I saw from the team overall.  Everyone stepped up to post a score that counted and we performed well under some pressure.  The team is back in action Feb 14-15 in San Antonio.

lady vipers win the vanessa close:

The Lady Vipers traveled to Flower Mound to compete in the Vanessa Close Inv at Bridlewood GC.  This is always a solid field and a good test of golf.  The team battled cold/wet conditions both days, but played very solid golf.  With an opening round 301, the ladies opened up an 8 shot lead.  Round 2 got off to a slightly slow start, but the girls played the back nine in even par as a team to post a final round 305 and get the victory.  Nicole Vivier (73-75) and Makenzie Niblett (74-74) led the way finishing T4 individually.  This is the team's 3rd win of the season and a great way to start the spring season.  The team will be back in action in a couple weeks playing in the Lakeapalooza.

guys take 2nd at neisd shootout

Picture
The Vipers competed in the NEISD Shootout at TPC San Antonio (Canyons) this past weekend.  Day 1 brought a 2 hour frost delay, which shortened the day to 18 holes instead of the scheduled 36.  Colin Slater led the way posting 71(-1).  The team shot 302 and was in 3rd place.  The final round also brought a short delay, but once the team was on the course, the guys played very solid, posting 289.  Andrew Tan posted 69(-3) to lead the way and the team jumped into 2nd place.  TPC Canyons is a great test of golf and I'm very pleased with how the guys competed and posted the low round of the day for the final round.  289 is a great team score, especially on a demanding venue.  The team is back in action at the Mike Brent Inv Feb 21-22.

Andrew Tan 78-69
Colin Slater 71-76
Jack Wehman 76-74
Sho Kato 77-73
